With over 7M Instagram followers, renowned wildlife photographer, Paul Nicklen founded Only One to enable his followers to have greater impact on the world oceans.
Problem statement
Only.one needs to transform its substantial but passive Instagram following into an active and engaged community, as users currently lack the tools and opportunities to take meaningful action toward ocean conservation.
Hypothesis
To drive greater impact, Only One must create a platform that empowers users to feel a sense of agency and responsibility for global ocean health, fostering deeper involvement in conservation initiatives and increasing platform engagement.
Solution
In close partnership with Only One's team, Rise initiated a collaborative process to develop an engaging platform. Through workshopping, ideating, and iterating on a product solution, we enabled members to discover and engage in conservation missions. Weekly meetings and a single point of contact facilitated seamless integration into their internal schedule, while lean software delivery methods ensured agility in our approach.
During the Discovery phase, we conducted a three-day workshop in Lisbon, using the Google Sprint method to generate ideas from all stakeholders.
Our design team then focused on a user-centered process to refine the core product experience, identify monetization potential, and establish growth loops. The resulting web app empowered users to act on issues they cared about, providing real-time results and enhancing community sharing.
“Rise did a great job at figuring out what was in our heads and bringing that to life. Wow — nicely done."
